Dear Friends,
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” Equality for all people mattered to him and he did not remain silent. Today, an African-American is President of the United States while another who sought the position (Herman Cain) won Florida’s Republican Presidential straw poll in September of 2011. These things would not have happened had it not been for Dr. King’s strength, determination, and courage. We, too, can make a difference when we choose not to remain silent.
Our economy matters to me. In St. Lucie County, over 17,000 of our family members, friends and neighbors are out of work and countless others remain underemployed. As of November 2011, the county’s unemployment rate was 12.3% – a figure well above the national (8.7%) and state (10.0%) averages. So why are we not doing more to create jobs for our community? Simply, we lack the experience and leadership needed to make a difference. Both of which I possess and hope to demonstrate as your next St. Lucie County Commissioner.
John F. Kennedy was first of many (like Ronald Reagan) to use the phrase “A rising tide lifts all boats.” JFK lowered taxes, allowing people to keep more of their own money, which was spent in their local economies (“raising the tide”). The result was the creation of jobs and a more robust economy that benefited everyone no matter their level of income (“lifting all boats”). It is that same opportunity that I will bring, working diligently on your behalf, to make St. Lucie County more prosperous for all.
If St. Lucie County’s economic well-being matters to you, I invite you to join me in speaking out. Please click on “Take Action” above to let me know what you are able to do to help my campaign. If you are able, I would be honored to receive your contribution. Whatever you do, please do not remain silent! Whether it’s through your time, talent or treasure, please speak out about the need to improve our economy and create jobs. Together we will make a difference!
God Bless,
Al
